  3. Other Helpful People Counseling Secretary: Mrs. Johnston Can direct you to the right place concerning any questions, transcripts, etc. Registrar: Mrs. Adams She is responsible for all records, sending transcripts, grades etc.

  4. ASVAB Testing • Still unsure about your career plans? Sign up for the ASVAB on November 8th. • This test will help you discover skills and aptitudes for certain jobs. It does not commit you to the military. Sign up in the counseling office.

  5. Important Dates • November 2: District College Night at the BCTAL 6:00- 8:00 PM. • PSAT Exam for National Merit Competition October 19th.

  6. Staying Informed • Be sure to sign up for reminders from the counseling department through Remind 101 see packet for instructions. • Also, the BHS Facebook page is a great source for keeping up with college and scholarship information. • Lunch visits with college recruiters.

  8. LISTEN for Exemptions from College Tests Sat or ACT

  9. NCAA Clearinghouse Juniors interested in playing Division I or II sports in college MUST register on-line for the clearinghouse BEFORE recruiters can talk to students or high school coaches. Register at www.NCAA.org Request your transcript from Mrs. Adams.

  10. NOW is the time to determine GRADUATION PLAN

  11. Foundation High School Plan 4 credits English 4 credits Math 4 credits Science 3 credits Social Studies (unless on Multidisciplinary) 2 credits World Languages (must be the same language.) 1 credit PE

  12. Foundation HS continued • 1 credit fine arts • Health .5 credit • Speech .5 credits • Technology .5 required • Endorsement Coursework completed Total of 26 credits or more.

  14. Many colleges and universities want 3 credits of the same foreign language and 4 credits of Social Studies

  15. Performance Acknowledgements A student may earn a performance acknowledgement on their transcript for outstanding performance on any of the following:

Performance Acknowledgements • Completing at least 12 hours of college credit including dual credit and advanced technical credit. • In bilingualism and bi literacy • On a college AP Exam • On the PSAT, SAT, or ACT • For earning a nationally or internationally recognized industry certification.

  17. TCC Dual Credit Great Deal Cost • Approximately $177 per 3 hour course plus textbooks. • Requirements: Must show college readiness by having high enough scores on ACT or SAT or by passing the TSI (Texas Success Initiative)

  18. TCC Continued • Senior year options: • English: You will earn Comp 1, Comp 2, and Brit. Lit credit. 9 hours of college credit upon successful completion of each course. You must complete all 3 courses in English to get the high school credit. Approximately 3 hours for Govt., Econ. College Algebra, and Pre-Cal.

  19. Dual Credit BCTAL • Dual Credit Accounting at the BCTAL (course is paid for by the BCTAL) 6 hours college credit . • Aviation Mechanics fees are also paid for by CTE and so is tool kit.

  24. Begin taking these tests in the spring of your junior year. SAT SAT tests reading, writing and math so strong math students have an advantage Good in Math? Take SAT ACT ACT tests math, writing and reading selections in science. Not good in Math? Take ACT

Industry Trends • The US Workforce of 2000 and beyond will be 65% skilled, 20% professional and 15% unskilled. • Increasing global competition • Electronic technology links workers and functions at scattered sites • Will have multiple careers (5-7) • Work methods and functions require workers to adapt continuously • Future jobs will require more than a high school diploma • Life long learning is a must • Over the course of a lifetime of work a HS grad will earn $500,000 more than a non-graduate

  30. BCTAL(Birdville Center of Technology and Advanced Learning) • BCTAL offers a variety of career options, many classes are two periods. • You may be able to earn certificates or licensures that will make you more employable.

GO center Students can use the Go Center to: • Explore careers and colleges • Register for ACT/SAT • Research and Apply for Scholarships • Fill out College Applications • Complete Financial Aid Forms • Conduct Job Searches www.careercruising.com You may access career cruising from the BHS website. If you have forgotten your password you can see your counselor for it.

  35. Come to Junior Conference • Meet individually • Look at credits to graduate • Check next years class selections • Discuss plans after high school • Be ready to ask questions.
