  1. British Actions and Colonists’ Reactions

  2. Era 3-1 • taxes – a sum of money demanded by a government for its support • boycott – to refuse to buy goods from a certain source

  3. Think-Pair-Share Share your response to the reflection question with your partner. What might you do to show the school that you disapprove of the 5 cent charge for paper?

  4. Era 3-1 • Propaganda: Information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, cause, or country.

  5. Think-pair-share • How is Paul Revere’s depiction of the Boston Massacre an example of propaganda?

  6. Primary Source • When then were ordered by our commander to open the hatches and take out all the chests of tea and throw them overboard…and we immediately proceeded to execute his orders, first cutting and splitting the chests with our tomahawks, so as to thoroughly expose them to the effects of the water. In about three hours from the time we went on board, we had thus broken and thrown overboard every tea chest to be found on the ship, while those in the other ships were disposing of the tea in the same way, at the same time. We were surrounded by the British armed ships, but no attempt was made to resist us.

  7. True or False? • All of the colonists were patriots. • Many colonists thought that the Townshend Acts and Tea Act were “taxation without representation.” • Colonists dressed as Native Americans and poured tea into the Boston Harbor to protest the Tea Act. • Hundreds of innocent Bostonians were killed for no reason in the Boston Massacre. • The passage that you read about the Boston Tea Party is considered a primary source.
