  3. Mammals • Observe this lion…why do you think it is a mammal?

  4. A lion is a mammal because: • It has fur that cover the skin on its body. • A lion also gives birth to live young not eggs. • The babies drink milk from their mothers’ bodies.

  5. Is this animal a mammal? If yes, why?

  6. A Manatee

  7. A manatee does not have fur. But still it is a mammal. • It has some hair on its skin. • A manatee mother gives birth to live young.

  8. Animals that live in water but are mammals. • A manatee lives in water, but it has lungs, like other mammals.

  9. A dolphin too lives in water but is a mammal.

  10. Both a manatee and a dolphin rise to the top of the water to breathe in oxygen from the air.

  11. Birds

  12. Birds have feathers • They have wings and can fly • They hatch eggs

  13. Blue Jay

  14. Penguins are birds, they have wings, but they cannot fly

  15. Birds lay eggs

  16. Then eggs hatch 
