  9. Working in partnership with ng homes since 2013 Sky rugby course (early spring 2013) HMP Low Moss rugby course (winter 2013/2014) Springburn boxing course (summer 2014) Edinburgh rugby course (early 2015) HMP Low Moss boxing course (early 2015) Possilpark boxing course (June 2015- current)

  10. Sky rugby: 65% in work Springburn boxing: 60% in work (1 year on) Edinburgh rugby: 50% in work (3 months on) HMP Low Moss (x2): Aftercare with those released

Edinburgh rugby 50% in work in range of sectors 19/20 completed Glasgow Kelvin College Community Achievement Award 11/20 completed Heart Start first aid course One participant completed Activate qualification Possilpark boxing SQA Employability award Glasgow Kelvin College Community Achievement Award SAMH, SDS, JBG, Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution, Badenoch & Clark (recruitment specialists), Character Matters, NHS smoking cessation

Glasgow Caledonian University research findings Providing participants with structure, routine and purpose Providing participants with a comprehensive package of support – nurturing and responsive to needs Teaching valuable life lessons, skills, attitudes through rugby Promoting positive change across behavioural & psychological domains By helping participants to work around their barriers to access a range of opportunities they previously would not have had access to

  13. Recent report findings Rugby is key to the programme The warm and supportive coaching ethos & group climate Through promoting personal development (physical activity, mental health/wellbeing, self-confidence, motivation, social bonds)

  14. Quantitative findings • 100% of participants reported substantial • improvements in: • Self-confidence • Belonging to their community • Motivation • Ability to make positive choices • Feeling able to face challenges • Feeling hopeful

Scottish Government’s View • Scottish Government recently endorsed associations having a regeneration role in: “making significant and valuable wider contributions to their communities, for example through regeneration, community safety, supporting vulnerable people, and promoting employability skills” Response to ICI Committee from Nicola Sturgeon Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure, Investment and Cities
