Education Scotland - Regional Improvement Teams • Our Corporate Plan sets out the vision for how Education Scotland will ensure that we deliver a positive impact for all learners and educators. • We are developing a regional approach to the work of Education Scotland, including the support to Local Authorities. The regional teams will work with practitioners and policy makers to support the changing system within Scotland, supporting collaboration and assisting professionals within a more empowered system to develop solutions and practice which support their context. • We will provide a range of curriculum support at local, regional and national level which promotes a culture of sharing best practice and the establishment of professional learning networks.

Education Scotland - Regional Improvement Teams • Each region is led by a Senior Regional Advisor, who will coordinate and broker support at a regional and local level and be supported by a regional improvement team. • Forth Valley & West Lothian Collaborative - Jackie Halawi • Northern Alliance - David Gregory • South East Collaborative - Alistair Brown • South West Collaborative - Carol Copstick • Tayside Collaborative - Alan Britton (Paul Fleming until August 2019) • West Partnership - Patricia Watson

Education Scotland - Regional Improvement Teams • Each Regional Improvement Team (RIT) is comprised of Senior Education Officers, Education Officers, Attainment Advisors and Development Officers. • Forth Valley & West Lothian Collaborative – Helen Fairlie • Northern Alliance – Lesley Lennon • South East Collaborative – Kirsten Hume • South West Collaborative - TBC • Tayside Collaborative – Julie Jamieson • West Partnership – Paul Morgan • Regional teams will also have access to a named SCEL Lead Specialist from the core Professional Learning and Leadership Team.

The Scottish International Storytelling Festival • Community Programme taking place  2 September – 2 December (https://www.sisf.org.uk/community-programme/) • Wednesday 27 November has been designated as a nation-wide Story Exchange and schools are encouraged to dedicate an afternoon to sharing oral tales.   12. SQA Update • The revised English Advanced Higher Course Specification (valid from session 2019-2020 onwards) has been published, and is available on the English Advanced Higher page, under the 2019-20 tab. The Course Support Notes will be added to the document in the near future: • https://www.sqa.org.uk/files_ccc/AHCourseSpecEnglish.pdf • Education Scotland has updated its support notes for Advanced Higher English to reflect the updated course specification. This will be sent to NLN members in PDF format after today’s event and can be shared with relevant practitioners. • It will also be available on the National Literacy PLC at the beginning of the new session. Scottish National Standardised Assessments • Scottish Parliament Education and Skills Committee report - April 2019 • P1 Practitioner Forum recommendations – April 2019: • NIH: https://education.gov.scot/improvement/practice-exemplars/snsa-p1-practitioner-forum • Independent review of P1 assessments - June 2019: • ‘Teachers’ responses…indicated that where they had received training, they saw positive value in the P1SNSA data to inform judgements about learning and teaching…’ • SG website: https://www.gov.scot/publications/scottish-national-standardised-assessments-review-2019/ For Scotland's learners, with Scotland's educators

Enhancing Professional Learning in STEM Grants Programme • This programme, funded by Education Scotland and supported by the Scottish Government, will help to build the capacity and confidence of practitioners across Scotland and increase access to STEM professional learning opportunities in the following areas: • Numeracy and mathematics • Sciences • Technologies, including digital learning and teaching and engineering • Interdisciplinary STEM approaches. • Get in touch with the STEM team via email: stem@educationscotland.gov.scot • The closing date for applications is 10:00 on Friday 28 June 2019

  15. National Literacy PLC Site will now be called ‘National Literacy Professional Learning Community.’

  16. National Literacy PLC - update • Further consultation with ITE student and staff groups (Dundee and Strathclyde) has taken place. • More dynamic appearance – new Glow format. • Content added, particularly in professional learning and literacy across learning sections.

  17. National Literacy PLC – next steps • Identify the most effective way(s) to use PLC as a collaborative platform • Launch in August 2019 • Promote widely

  18. National School Libraries PLC Thesite has been developed to support both school librarians and staff undertaking library development within their school. As a result, it will provide information for those working in ELC through to Secondary school. For Scotland's learners, with Scotland's educators
