Designation of Conservation Areas • responsibility of the Local Planning Authority • “areas of special architectural or historic interest the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance…” • Currently 35 conservation areas in Perth & Kinross Conservation and Regeneration

  3. Value of Conservation Areas • Townscape tells a story of development • Sense of place, continuity, cultural identity • Quality of life • Economic well-being Conservation and Regeneration

  4. Understanding Character • Conservation Area Appraisal - basis for understanding and management of change • Need for community involvement - what is valued by the community • Local distinctiveness - what is considered “special” Conservation and Regeneration
