  4. Participating in the research • Next week in lab, you will be asked to fill out a form indicating if you would like to consent to the research or not. (Form) • If you are not 18 years of age or older, you will not be able to participate (sorry!)

  5. Electing to Participate • If you choose to participate (have your data analyzed), you will select “yes” and answer a few demographic questions. • If you elect not to participate (not to have your data analyzed), you will select “no” and the survey will be finished.

  6. What happens next? • Your response is recorded and stored by the researcher until after grades for CSE 115 are recorded at the university. Analysis of data will begin in January 2020. • All data will be de-identified before analysis and all reporting of results will be in aggregate

  7. Lab 1 assignment • Filling out the form is part of your Lab 1 assignment next week. • Participating in the research is NOT part of your assignment. • Your instructor will receive a report of who filled out the form, not who is participating in the research.

  8. Benefits/Risks of Participation • There are no known or anticipated risks of participating in this research. • Choosing to participate or not to participate does not change your workload for CSE 115, which assignments you get, how you are graded, or any other aspect of how this course is run. • Choosing to participate simply allows us to analyze your data.

  9. What if you choose not to participate? Essentially nothing – we simply cannot analyze your course performance data.
