  1. Why Take English Classes in Orvieto, Italy? Dr. D. R. Ransdell

  2. 1. You can earn Gen Ed or English credits Gen Ed:English 201, Creative Non-FictionEnglish 300, Literature and FilmEnglish:English 401, Advanced Creative Non-FictionEnglish 499, Shakespeare in Italy(There are also classes in subjects such as Photojournalism, Classics, Art, and Italian)

  3. 2. The classes are geared to enhance your experience. • Creative Non-Fiction: You’ll have plenty to write about, but your coursework will also help you record your own experiences. • Most of the films and short stories take place in cities you will be visiting, particularly Rome and Florence. • Shakespeare set several plays in the Veneto (Padua, Verona, Venice), which you might choose to visit on your own.

  4. 2. You’ll earn 6 units of credit in 5 short weeks, but it won’t seem like work.

  5. 3. Looks great on your résumébecause it represents a way of thinking outside the box.

  6. 4. You’ll learn things you never even dreamed about. Here I’m attempting a process called “paper marbling” during one of our cultural tours.

  7. 5. You’ll meet fun new friends who will last a lifetime.

  8. 6. You’ll live in a quaint, friendly town.

  9. 7. Because you get to stay for 5 weeks, you’ll be a traveler rather than a tourist. (In other words, you’ll have time to really get into the swing of things.) Tourist Locals

  10. 8. Orvieto has a great location. • The town is on the train line between Rome and Florence. • Venice, Naples, and Cinque Terre are only a few hours away. • It only takes an hour to get to Rome. (!)

  11. 9. You’ll eat really well. • Don’t like pasta? • You might change your mind!

  12. 10. You’ll have the chance to speak Italian! • You can get around Orvieto without it, but it’s always fun to try to talk to the locals. Italians appreciate your linguistic efforts even if the most you can say is “buongiorno!” • My favorite part of speaking Italian? You always get to talk with your hands.

  13. 11. You’ll go on a field trip to Florence: Florence

  14. To Rome:

  15. To Villa d’Este in Tivoli

  16. To Villa Adriana (Hadrian’s Villa)

  17. To either Venice or Paestum and Pompeii

  18. 12. You’ll have an unforgettable experience!

  19. However, there are some dangers. • Danger #1: You might fall in love. • Danger #2: Your relatives might want to • come visit you. • Danger #3: You might never want to leave. (Trust me.)
