  4. What it is • Under Thunder Pathway is a pathway linking a fourth of Juneau's most densely populated neighborhoods with each other, schools, business parks and shopping areas encouraging safe and efficient transportation and recreation.

  5. Who it's for • Students traveling to/from schools • Floyd Dryden Middle School • Riley Sports Complex (football field) • Glacier Valley Elementary School • People traveling to stores and businesses

Where it's located • This project involves improving Under Thunder Pathway from the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center to Amalga Street along the base of Thunder Mountain with connections to neighborhood streets. Future plans are to extend and pave this trail all the way to the McNugget Intersection. Trail Mix received $88,800 for this project

  12. How much will it cost? • Trail Mix has requested $4 million for a 4 mile trail. • One mile of trail would cost $1 million.

Why it is important to have this project in Juneau • One fourth of the city’s population lives to the east of Mendenhall Loop • Much safer than Mendenhall Loop bike paths: • 13 road crossings on east side of Mendenhall Loop • Numerous driveways to cross • Connects with existing bike paths • Encourages exercise • Decreases pollution & traffic • Beautiful nature close to home
