  • Early 90’s - Founders and future members fled Uzbekistan after President Kamirov’s crackdown on radical Islamic activities and rivals
  • Yuldeshev traveled to Pakistan, SA, Iran, Chechnya to study Islamist movements; received funding from ISI and Saudi Intelligence
  • 1995-1998 – IMU based in Peshawar, Pakistan; traveled to Afghanistan, met Bin Laden and Taliban leadership
  • 2001 to present – Fought along side Taliban after 9/11 and are currently allied with the BaitullahMehsud, leader of the Pakistani Taliban, and Al-Qaeda in Waziristan and have adopted and AQ theme of restoring the Caliphate
