Conception of the PCRRT meeting • Discussions from intensivists and nephrologists need for a forum for discussions of issues unique to PCRRT • Growth of the San Diego meeting of Dr Mehta’s that is now in its 5 year • A realization that PCRRT it more then just for ARF but may be helpful in sepsis, ECMO, hepatic support

  4. Why more CRRT? • Improved access • Improved or adapted machinery • Combined interests of Pediatric Nephrologist and Intensivist • CRRT identified as more gentle due to more severe illness of disease in children with more hemodynamic instability

  5. Etiology of need of RRT(Parekh et al, Adv RRT, Vol 3, 326-336, 1996) • Primary renal failure-44% • Sepsis-17% • Congenital Heart Disease-16% • Bone Marrow Transplant-7% • Urea Cycle Defects-6% • Heart/Liver Transplantation-5% • Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome-3% • Renal Transplantation-1%
