Dear Parents, Teachers, and K – 5th Grade Students Who Reside in Irving The City of Irving and DFW Humane Society proudly announce the opening of their new homes on the Irving Animal Care Campus Irving Animal Care Campus, which will be located at 4010 Valley View Lane. In conjunction with this exciting event, we invite any K – 5th grade student who lives in Irving to create a work of art relating to our city’s animals. These works will be on display at the Animal Care Campus during the month of April and may be picked up there in early May. Entries will be on display at the Animal Care Campus for the opening celebration as space permits. Works by up to 12 students will receive Purchase Awards of $20.00 each. These works be will be framed and permanently displayed at the Animal Care Campus. Students will receive their awards and be recognized for their outstanding work on Saturday, March 27th during the opening celebration for the new facility. Entries must be delivered to the present Animal Shelter at 100 N. Briery in Irving no later than 4:00 p.m. on March 11. We hope that this endeavor will provide an opportunity for young artists to put their talents to work and to gain a better understanding of the services offered by our city to citizens and their animals. Works must be on 12 x 18 inch white drawing or colored construction paper and must be two-dimensional. No manila paper, please. Acceptable materials include tempera, watercolor, marker, crayon, cut-paper, collage and mixed media. Works must be bright and bold and must illustrate the theme Animals Are Our Friends. A completed parent consent forms must be securely taped to the back of each work. Only one entry per student will be accepted. Animals are our Friends ~ Competition Details ~ Submission: entries must be delivered to the present Irving Animal Shelter at 100 N Briery no later than 4:00 p.m. on March 11, 2010 Subject: illustrations relating to any animal that may be found in an animal shelter, including dogs, cats, birds, farm animals, rodents, and reptiles – one entry per student, please Art must be: 12” x 18” Two-dimensional or low relief – vertical or horizontal On white or colored paper - no manila paper, please Materials may be: marker, watercolor, tempera, cut paper, collage, crayon, pastelle or oil pastelle Awards: Up to 12 students will receive a $20.00 purchase awards and a color copy of their art Winning artists will be recognized at the Animal Care Campus’s grand opening on March 27. Winning entries will become the property of the City of Irving and will be framed and permanently displayed at the Animal Care Campus Display of work: winning entries and selected other works will be on display at the Animal Care Campus from March 27 – May 1 and may be picked up there in early May Identification: a parent consent form must be securely attached to the back of each work 

  4. Irving Animal Care Campus Mission Statement The City of Irving Animal Care Campus will provide many services for our citizens and animals. Among these are: Providing a safe and clean environment for the temporary care of displaced or homeless animals and relocating them to rescue groups or permanent homes through adoption opportunities. Relieving the pain and suffering of animals in Irving. Ensuring the health and safety of cats and dogs in Irving by encouraging spay/neuter, registration and micro- chipping. Offering low-cost pet vaccination clinics. Increasing public awareness for the citizens of Irving through educational opportunities regarding animal issues. Setting exemplary standards for other agencies to follow.
