  1. Delivering Library Services through a Virtual Learning Environment Plug-In:“Library Reading Lists.” David Kane Systems Librarian Waterford Institute of Technology

  2. Library Reading Lists • This presentation describes the creation and implementation of a Moodle Plug-in • The plug-in gives the Library an expanded presence within the virtual learning environment, and provides an opportunity for delivering multiple library services directly into Moodle. • The main way that this plug-in has been used so far is to give academic staff the ability to include relevant reading lists in each module. I will spend most of the presentation speaking about Reading Lists.

  3. Library Reading Lists • To assist further collection development: • Quantify what staff need that is not in the library • Quantify what we already have and how well used • Give students access to the lists (and potentially other resources, in the future) through their course page in Moodle • Enhance the working relationship with the teaching staff.

  4. In the context of WIT, the Plug-in Is Mainly an End Point for our Reading List service So, let’s move focus to the Reading List software before we return to the Moodle Plug-in

  5. The Reading List Service Metadata from Multiple Data Sources Multiple End Applications Reading List Software • List Builder • Reporting Tool • Authentication • Library Catalogue • COPAC • Google Books • ISBNdb • Moodle Plug-in • Module manager
