  2. A scientific experiment, no matter how spectacular the results, is not complete until the results are published …The cornerstone of the philosophy of science is based on the fundamental assumption that original research must be published … The scientist must not only « do » science but must « write » science … (Day, 1988, In « How to Write & Publish a Scientific Paper », 3rd Ed)

  3. Monitoring, checking, remain continuously up to date in your filed Reading, thinking, setting up protocols managing collected information Researcher Information user Assessing the information ? Collecting scientific information Including the new information in the research process Publishing, self-archiving so that the new information become knowledge Researcher Information generator Communicating your results writing papers

  4. Seminarobjectives • Realizing the importance of scientific communication in research and integrate it in your research work: why should you publish? • Better apprehend and understand the present day context of scientific edition and how it is evolving • Define a publication strategy in order to better promote your research work by asking the right questions at the right moment. • Knowing the basis of building and writing a research article: organizing the content of the article, the main points (title, abstract), rules for making tables and figures, international conventions.

  5. Why should you publish?

  6. Why should you publish? (1) • « A research project must generate a written publication »(Matthews, Bowen & Matthews, 2000. In « Successful scientific writing », 2nd Ed) • « Researchers publish for economic self-interest … » (Huth E, cité par Devine K, The Scientist 15:30, 2001) • « No publications, no funds ; no funds, no job … » (Flower-Ellis J, Swedish Univ. of Agricult. Sciences, cité par Devine K, The Scientist 15:30, 2001) 6

  7. Why should you publish? (2) • Publishing research results is contributing to the construction of knowledge • However, publishing is also the mean by which a researching is recognized... • ...because the evaluation of research and researchers necessarily means the evaluation of research “writings”... 7
