  7. The “Mojave Experiment”.... • What do people think of Windows Vista when they don’t know it’s Windows Vista?

  8. Enhanced Security Likelihood of malware or spyware infection High Severity Vulnerabilities

  9. Enhanced Security • In Summary, based on first year post launch studies, when compared to Windows XP, Windows Vista had • 30% fewer security bulletins • 20% fewer vulnerabilities • 28% fewer critical and important vulnerabilities • 26 vulnerabilities on Windows Vista are less severe for any user running as standard user (Data Source: Windows Vista v Windows XP SP2 Vulnerability report 2007)

  10. Analyst Reporting March 2008 Worldwide Windows Client Operating Environments 2008–2012 Forecast: Windows Vista Momentum Picks Up Steam By Al Gillen Looking forward, we expect that 2008 will mark the beginning of a much stronger adoption curve for Windows Vista on the business side, especially now that Windows Server 2008 has launched.“ November 12, 2007 How Windows Vista Will Shake Up The State Of The Enterprise Operating System Wide-Scale Enterprise Deployments Of Windows Vista Will Start In Mid-2008 by Benjamin Gray “Forrester expects at least one-third of enterprises to begin to deploy Windows Vista enterprise wide by mid-2008 as more applications will be certified, hardware will be refreshed and ready to run Windows Vista smoothly, and price points will make compatible machines more affordable than they are today.” November 29, 2007 Don’t Skip Windows Vista by Michael A. Silver “Organizations' Windows Vista deployment plans generally are running late. With many Vista deployments set to begin in late 2008 or early 2009, and with Microsoft discussing the next release for late 2009, pressure will mount to skip Windows Vista entirely. We believe this is a risky proposition.”

  11. Windows Vista’s feature/function improvements should make ongoing operations easier. We’re not going to run through the list of security, reliability, and user experience improvements that Windows Vista actually delivers on, but suffice it to say that the returns from early adopters have been impressive. (see endnote 5) Customers have raved about being able to standardize their users on the standard ENDNOTES 1. Nearly half of the enterprises we surveyed have concrete plans to deploy Windows Vista. By the end of this year, 7% of enterprises will start their deployments. By the end of 2008, 32% will begin, and an additional 17% will start to deploy the OS in 2009 or beyond. But it’s not a huge surprise that just over half the enterprises we surveyed * To use this slide with customers, even under NDA, you must obtain permission from Forrester. Check with your PC manufacturer on whether your system delivers Execute Disable Bit functionality.

  18. Five Reasons why customer should consider deploying Windows Vista in FY09!

  19. Making the Business Case for Windows Vista • The Microsoft IO ROI tool can help partners • Make the business case for Windows Vista • Quantify the value of MDOP and Microsoft’s management solutions • Prove the value that Microsoft has to offer customers across the medium to enterprise markets • Improve partner selling effectiveness and competitive advantage

  20. So What About Windows 7? Should we wait for Windows 7? • Customers are not going to be ready to deploy Windows 7 the day it ships. • We expect to see them evaluating and testing Windows 7 somewhere from 18 - 36 months after it’s released • Windows 7 is planned to be released about 3 years after Windows Vista • The total period customers likely will be waiting prior broadly deploying Windows 7, will be in the range of 5 - 7 years after Windows Vista release. • This may put customers into a situation where their ISV vendors may no longer support certain applications on Windows XP “Skipping versions of Windows entirely, generally increases the risk of having unsupported applications running on selected operating systems”, hence their recommendation is “Don’t skip Windows Vista entirely”. (Gartner)
