  4. Mission of METCO Provide opportunity for children from racially imbalanced schools in Boston and children from isolated suburban schools to learn together in an integrated public school setting.

  5. Vision of METCO Increase the diversity and reduce racial isolation, in order for students from different backgrounds to learn from each other in meaningful ways and provide a closer understanding and cooperation between urban and suburban parents and other citizens in the Boston Metropolitan area.

  6. Newton METCO’s Purpose Provide a strong academic foundation, as well as an environment rich in cultural, educational, ethnic and racial diversity for the academic and social success of students.

  7. SY 2015-2016 Objective Align Newton METCO staff to serve METCO students and Newton Public Schools for the academic and social success of our students.

  8. 2014-2015 Budget, Enrollment and Staffing

  9. 2015-2016 Budget & Staffing • Increase Staff Salaries to 28% • Reduce Consultant Fees to $0 = 1% of Budget • Decrease Non-Salary Expenses from 6% to 3% • Balance student caseload by staff • Ensure continuity of service for students across levels • Increase presence of METCO staff at all 21 schools • Support staff and students with early interventions in Elementary

Addressing the Needsof Newton METCO students Intense Academic Monitoring (general and special education) Progress in grades K-2 Coordinate Academic Support in-school and out-of-school Emphasize Social/Emotional Learning Practices and coordinate services for students and/or families Coach & Support Staff and Families on Culturally Proficient School Practices Support Family & Community Engagement between Boston and Newton Families

  12. Goals for Diversifying Staff & Expanding Services METCO Counselors to supervise interns seeking Guidance Counseling and Social Work licensure. Increase the adult to student ratio at all schools. Provide opportunity for diverse undergrads/graduate students to experience a suburban public district. Increase the diversity pool for future vacancies in guidance counseling and social work positions .

  13. FAMILY INVOLVMENT Increase METCO Family Involvement at Schools March 2nd, 2016 – Lobby Day Parent Board to decide and plan upcoming social events for the year

Newton METCO Transportation • Coordinated by Newton Public Schools Transportation Department, Regina Moody. • Routes changed based on the following: • School moves happening in December • Equitable services to all families • Minimize student time on the bus • Bus Schedules are never final – Changes will be sent via email and available on website
