  1. What Happens to Us When We Die? 1 Corinthians 15:35-49

  2. The Great Truths: Life is temporary. Now is the time to prepare for eternity.

  3. “What Happens?” Annihilation. We get to finish unfinished business – Ghost, Bruce Almighty, Ghost Whisperer. We are in a different phase of reality – 6th Sense, Flat Liners. We are eager to come back – Beetle Juice. Judgment and Separation – What Dreams May Come.

  4. What Does God Say? • 1 Corinthians 15:35-49 Page 1791. • But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" 36 How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.39 All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41 The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

  5. The Seed and the Plant: • What does this seed become?

  6. The Seed and the Plant: • What does this seed become?

  7. The Seed and the Plant: • What does this seed become?

  8. What does this seed become?

  9. 42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

  10. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being" ; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. 49And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.

  11. What Kind of Body? A Spiritual One Like Jesus. After His resurrection Jesus was identifiable. Like Moses and Elijah (Matthew 17:3). After the resurrection he was not limited by flesh. After the resurrection He could return to the Father.

  12. Luke 24:36-48 Page 1644 • While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you.“ 37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38 He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.“

  13. Luke 24:36-48 Page 1644 • LK 24:40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here to eat?" 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.

  14. Luke 24:36-48 Page 1644 • LK 24:44 He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”

  15. Luke 24:36-48 • LK 24:45Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

  16. What Kind of Body Will You Have? Read Luke 16:19-31 on page 1626 for some guidance. One that is different than this one! One that may or may not look like the one that you have now. One free from sin and selfishness. One that is eternal and can be with God. Now is the time to be ready – are you ready?

  17. Next Week: Easter Friend and Neighbour. “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
