  1. Nadab, Baasha, Elah, and Zimri Kings of God’s Retribution

  2. Background • Nadab, Baasha, Elah, and Zimri were four bad kings who ruled Israel, c. 910 – 885 B.C. (1 Kings 15:25 – 16:20) • There was evil, unrest, and conspiracy at this time • There is a repeated statement found in this account: “because of … sins,” and “for … sins” (15:30; 16:7,13,19) • What can we learn from these four kings? We learn the important lesson of divine retribution for sin

  3. God’s Divine Retribution • Retribution comes because God sees all – 15:34; 16:7,19 (Gen. 44:16; Psa. 139; Heb. 4:13) • Retribution comes because God is always just, fair, and right – 15:30; 16:2,7,13 (Deut. 32:35,41; Jer. 32:18; 2 Thess. 1:6; Heb. 2:2) • Retribution comes because it is deserved – 16:2 (Gen. 39:9; 2 Sam. 12:13; 1 Jn. 3:4)

  4. God’s Divine Retribution • Retribution comes because sin has it consequences - 15:30; 16:7,13,19 (Num. 32:23; Ezek. 18:20; Gal. 6:8-9) • Retribution comes without respect of persons – 16:3,7 (Rom. 2:5-11; Heb. 2:2) • Retribution comes because God’s word and will is providentially working “behind the scenes” – 16:1,7,12 (Isa. 34:8; 59:18; 66:6; Jer. 25:14; 50:29; 51:6; Lam. 3:64; Hos. 12:2; Rom. 1:27; 12:19)

  5. God’s Divine Retribution • You can receive God’s divine retribution in HELL for your un-forgiven sins • You can receive God’s divine recompense in HEAVEN for your forgiven sins (Col. 3:24; Heb. 10:35; 11:26)
