  1. Computer and Systems Information Manager Vs. Computer Hardware Engineer Joshua Barnett

  2. C&SIM vs. CHEWhat are they? Often called Information Technology Managers. Plan, Coordinate, computer related jobs in an organization. Responsible for administering the proper computers and systems to get a task completed. COMPUTER HARDWARE ENGINEER COMPUTER AND SYSTEMS INFORMATION MANAGER • Research and develop new types of computer hardware, such as chips, circuit boards, and more. • Creators of new types of computers and make computers run faster. • Solve complex problems involving computer hardware.

  3. Computer Hardware Engineer Computer and Systems Information Manager Well, what conditions do they work in? Most large corporations and organizations. Computer systems and design firms. Most likely Full Time in an air-conditioned company. In 2010, over 25% of workers surveyed in this field worked over 50 hours a week! • Usually work in laboratories. • High-tech manufacturing firms. • Computer design firms. • U.S. Government

  4. I want to work in this field. how do I get there? Computer and Systems Information Manager Computer Hardware Engineer • Bachelors Degree in Computer or Information Science. • Almost always “Related Work Experience” is required. • Most have a Graduate Degree (Masters or Higher) • Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

  5. So, the whole reason we have a career. How much MONEY do these guys make?! Computer and Systems Information Manager Computer Hardware Engineer • AMW: $116,000 • LTP: $71,000 • HTP: $166,000 • AMW: $98,000 • LTP: $61,000 • HTP: $148,000 AMW = Average Median Wage LTP = Lowest Ten Percent HTP = Highest Ten Percent

  6. Michigan Technological University • Highly involved in computers. The entire campus is a wireless zone. • Multiple computer-based degrees (both Bachelors and Masters) • Labs, Labs, Labs! Michigan Tech is mainly based off of lab classes so that students are prepared when they reach the job-world. • Every Classroom is equipped with computer-projection systems and internet access. Computer labs hold state-of-the-art equipment! • Learning Centers in Rekhi Hall help struggling students to succeed through the help of upper-class Undergraduate students!

  7. Michigan technological university (continued) • You can be set up to work Part-Time with companies in the Houghton area! (Even big-name companies such as GE or Dematic!) • Learning is reinforced through either an Enterprise Program, where students work on a project for competition for two years; or through a Senior Design Program, where students work with a company to solve a legitimate problem. (Students have gone as far as helping NASA figure out difficulties!) • Almost all of your core classes offer labs to complement class lectures and industrial practice!

  8. Average cost per year at Michigan Tech is $25,678 per year, so a Bachelors Degree runs up to $102,712. This cost is assuming you live on-campus all 4 years, if you decide against that, then the cost drops to 68,917 as you have to live on campus freshman year. So, if I’m going to Michigan Technological University for this degree, what’s it going to cost me?

  9. C&SIM • Computer Software and Networking. Similarities and Differences between C&SIM and CHE CHE • Hardware Research & Development High Pay, involves computers, most likely Air Conditioned work spaces

  10. Personally, I prefer the Computer and Systems Information Manager as they work more with computers instead of the development of computers. Plus, the pay’s not too shabby either! Well, which one do I prefer?
