Juniors and seniors typically take the exam. Students who studied Java or another key-based programming language from an experienced teacher are well prepared. Students who excelled on the PSAT Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing sections and who are comfortable completing the AP Computer Science independent study requirement have good prospects for doing well on the exam. The AP Computer Science Exam contains two sections with around 60 multiple-choice questions and four or five free-response questions. The exam is administered annually in May. The multiple-choice section is one hour and contains around 40 equal-weighted questions. The free-response section is two hours and 15 minutes long and contains two parts: a 15-minute reading period and two staggered sets of questions. In recent years, just over 50% of the students who tested received scores of 4 or 5. AP Computer Science has two courses: Computer Science A and Computer Science Principles. Computer Science A focuses on programming skills using Java. Computer Science Principles provides a broad introduction to computer science and its applications. Close AP Computer Science A: This course is a first-semester college course that emphasizes object-oriented programming and, thus, problem-solving and algorithm development. The course has 10 units: primitive types, using objects, Boolean expressions, iteration, writing classes, arrays, ArrayList, 2D arrays, inheritance, and recursion. AP Computer Science Principles: This course is an introduction at the college level and is designed to give a broad introduction to computer science. It emphasizes computational thinking, the use of computer science in problem-solving, and the impacts of computing. This course is complementary to Computer Science A, and it does not have a specified programming language. HOW IS AP COMPUTER SCIENCE EXAM IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS IN CHICAGO? The AP Computer Science exam is very important for Chicago students due to the following reasons: College Credit and Placement: High scores on the AP exams may qualify students for college credit, which can enable them to skip the introductory computer science courses, save money, and graduate earlier. Some schools may also have placement in honors or accelerated programs depending on the AP scores. The University of Chicago requires a placement to enrol in computer science courses beyond the first-quarter level. Boosting College Applications: Doing well in AP Computer Science proves to the admissions officers that students are capable of doing difficult courses. It also shows interest and competence in a very highly. valued field: AP courses are weighted more heavily in GPA calculations, therefore doing well can significantly raise your overall GPA. Career Readiness: The skills developed while studying for the AP Computer Science exams—such as coding, problem-solving, and analytical thinking— are useful in many careers in technology, engineering, and more. Personal Growth and Confidence: Successfully passing the AP Computer Science exams makes a student proud, especially for those who have never coded before or have been introduced to computer science. It develops discipline and perseverance in preparation for exams and important life skills, including time management, critical thinking, and the ability to work independently. Increasing female representation: CPS has been lauded for increasing gender diversity and equity in computer science education. CPS high schools have been recipients of awards for having the highest female representation in AP computer science courses. High school females taking AP CSP are more than five times likelier to major in computer science in college. Check Out Our Google Reviews Google Reviews 4.95 8 r e v i e w s

Part I: Create Performance Task This constitutes 30% of the final exam score. Students develop a computer program of their choice that solves a problem, shows an innovation, or expresses their interests. Students are required to upload their program code, a video of the running program, and a written response to prompts about the program. All students are expected to have at least 12 hours in class to complete the task and submit it on the online AP Digital Portfolio for grading. STRATEGIES TO SUCCESS IN AP COMPUTER SCIENCE EXAM WITH MASTERCLASS SPACE ON CHICAGO To pass the AP Computer Science exam, here are some strategies that will be useful besides taking classes provided by Masterclass Space in Chicago: Practice regularly: Regular coding helps to develop and improve your skills. Try to take some time each day to write and debug your code. Use online sites like CodingBat for extra Java or Python practice. Create a Study Schedule: Create a study plan that covers all required topics, allowing one to spend more time in areas of weakness. Check your progress regularly and make changes to the schedule accordingly. Master Key Concepts: Aim for a conceptual understanding of algorithms rather than memorizing specific code. Effective Test-Taking Strategies: Answer every multiple-choice question, even if it's a guess since there's no penalty for wrong answers. Use the process of elimination to narrow down choices. Keep track of time to avoid running out. Read Questions Carefully: Underline key tasks, variables, and methods, and pay close attention to preconditions, postconditions, and method headers. Engage Actively: Attend study groups and actively participate in class discussions with both your peers and your teachers. Group work may provide

  3. insight or alternative problem solutions. Basic Search and Sorts Review: Be able to recognize linear and binary searches and bubble, insertion, selection, quick, and merge sorts. You don't need to know how to implement them—just be able to identify their basic characteristics. Analyze Mistakes: Go through past AP exams or practice tests and analyze mistakes to avoid repeating them. Become Familiar with Exam Format and Content: Success in your AP Exam is partly dependent on familiarity with the format and content of the exam. Use Partial Credit Option: You often receive partial credit for partially correct answers on AP Computer Science Exams. If you do not know how to answer a question, take a shot. Even if you do not fully solve it, you may be able to get some points. For more updates about AP computer science in Chicago visit www.masterclassspace.com.
