Commas in a series • If three or more items are listed in a sentence, use a comma after each item in the series. • If only two items are listed in a sentence, do not use a comma to separate the items. • Write a conjunction such as and or or before the last item in the series. Include a comma before the conjunction but not after it: We saw llamas, zebras, and monkeys.

  3. Dates and addresses • Commas are also used in dates and between a city and state name: May 1, 2011 Fresno, California

  4. Commas in a series: • At the zoo I saw lions, tigers and bears. • For breakfast Mr. Milligan eats, tongue, liver or beetles. • Spiders, snakes and lizards are my favorite animals. • Ms. Mulligan, Ms. Carlson and Ms. Schlafer teach fourth grade.

  5.
