Needs Assessment • Problem/opportunity? • Most students majoring in MNGT 900 have not actively participated in the resort/spa arena. • What is currently available? • Basic textbook instruction and recorded media is available for classroom viewing. Hands on learning is typically reserved for internships with local resorts/spas and limited to general customer service. • What should be available? • On the job training is needed for this industry. Students must be shown that real work takes place behind the scenes. Performance-Based Objectives • Students should be able to: • Define the 10 basic hospitality guidelines for resort/spa management. • Identify the style of hospitality management that each of the visited resorts/spas used for their operation. • Utilize the star-rating system to grade and cite each visited resort/spa. • Prove understanding of the taught lessons by accomplishing all objective with 85% or greater. Learning Context • Learning environment: • The intended classroom will include numerous 80” plasma televisions for side-by-side visual comparisons of equally rated facilities; several professor authored textbooks; 4 seasonal fieldtrips to resorts/spas; in-person interviews with frequent visitors of local resorts/spas; & panel discussions with the board of chamber members in charge of hospitality. • Students will meet 3 days per week-3 hours each day and field trips will be 2 weeks long during each season. Due to student flexibility, trips may be taken in partnered groups with a trained facilitator. • Delivery of class instruction will be in an auditory/visual environment. Most classes will include film/video and discussion according to hospitality guidelines and the star-rating system. Instructional Plan Template | Slide 8

Plan for Implementation • MNGT 900 • Enrollment • Private instruction, students seek us and must meet all criteria to enroll – no exceptions • Participants • Enrollment is open to all who meet the strict requirements.
