  5. New Initiatives planned this year • Effective networking with the Central Government and Multilateral agencies, etc. in New Delhi • Setting up of an ADR Centre in IMC • Hosting of exhibitions • IT awards • Website Restructuring • Publications

  6. Networking with the Central Government • Upgrading and strengthening our New Delhi office. We have retained Mr. Arun Kumar Mago (IAS Retd.), former Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, as our consultant and advisor. • Liaison and networking at various levels of Central Government Ministries and Embassies in New Delhi • Getting associated with hosting important visiting foreign dignitaries in Mumbai • To regain seats on the MbPT and JNPT Board of Trustees, as well as the Zonal ailway Users’ Consultative Committees for Central and Western Railway. • Strengthen liaison with multilateral agencies like World Bank, UNDP, UNCTAD, etc.

  7. Setting up of ADR Centre in Mumbai • We are trying to set up the ADR Centre of the Chamber on the 3rd floor of IMC, with a generous contribution from Mr. Suresh Kotak’s family. This will give IMC a great deal of visibility in the critical areas of arbitration, mediation and conciliation. • Registration of IMC as an Institutional Arbitrator with the Bombay High Court.

  8. Exhibitions/Trade Fairs • To begin with, the Chamber is planning to host an exhibition focusing on electronics and electronic items some time in December 2013 or January 2014 in the World Trade Centre, Mumbai.

  9. IT Awards • The Chamber is organising the IT awards on September 28, 2013, for excellence in this critically important area.

  10. Website Restructuring • We will be restructuring the IMC website to make it more comprehensive and user friendly. This will include putting articles written by economists, including from IMC. This will ensure their accessibility to a larger audience, and could also help to spur a strategic debate in important policy areas which would enhance the IMC’s visibility amongst decision-makers.

  11. Publications We propose to bring out publications/policy documents/research papers in the following important areas: • Law and legal affairs • Insurance • Public transportation • Urban infrastructure • Financing of Water Investments • Financial Sector Reforms

  12. Publications (Continued) Study on IWT in Mumbai/Maharashtra • Undertaking a detailed study on the topic “Inland Water Transportation (IWT) in Maharashtra with special reference to the Mumbai Metropolitan Area: Scenario, Perspective and Prospects”. • This is in sync with the theme of the year since sustainable development – particularly of densely populated and sprawling coastal urban areas like Mumbai – will necessitate a much greater and cost-effective implementation of IWT than what is being attempted at present.

This Committee would help to reveal some solid insights and policy actions in that context.
