Resistance to Civil Government

To conform, or not to conform? That is the question!

conformity discussion

1. What does it mean to CONFORM?

  • 2. What motivates us as human beings to conform to others? (What do we perceive we are gaining or losing?)
Conformity- Discussion
follow the herd

The human race is a herd. Here we are, unique, eternal aspects of consciousness with an infinity of potential, and we have allowed ourselves to become an unthinking, unquestioning blob of conformity and uniformity. A herd. Once we concede to the herd mentality, we can be controlled and directed by a tiny few. And we are.David Icke

3. How does American culture view conformity? (Think about how most Americans feel about those who choose NOT to conform)

4. Does the culture we have conformed to make us easy to control/lead/deceive? How? Why?

  • In other words…why do people want us to be just like them? What motivates them to try to change us? What do they think they gain?

reflection conformity

“The supreme lesson of any education should be to think for yourself; absent this attainment, education creates dangerous, stupefying conformity.” Bryant McGill

  • “So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservation, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future.” –John Krakauer
  • “Conformity is the jailer of freedom and enemy of growth” –JFK
  • “The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it is conformity. Even a dead fish can go with the flow.” –Jim Hightower
  • “Group conformity scares the pants off me because it’s so often a prelude to cruelty towards anyone who doesn’t want to—or can’t—join the Big Parade.” –Bette Midler
