  1. Athens University of Economics & BusinessPresentation at EDUSAFE Kick-off Meeting Prof. Theodoros Apostolopoulos e-mail: tca@aueb.gr

  2. Athens University of Economics & Business (AUEB) • AUEB is a distinguished public learning institution which is known for the excellence of its faculty, students and academic programmes • AUEB departments traditionally accept the candidates with the highest scores in the student entrance exams • The University offers undergraduate (B.A. or B.Sc.), graduate (M.Sc. or M.B.A.) and doctoral (Ph.D) degrees in 8 Departments: • Accounting and Finance • Business Administration • Economics • Informatics • International and European Economic Studies • Management Science and Technology • Marketing and Communication • Statistics

  3. Department of Informatics • Strong research profile and presence in European research projects (esp. ICT) • Domains: • Theoretical Computer Science • Computer Systems and Networks • Information Systems and Information Security • Databases and Knowledge Management • Operations Research and Economics of Information Technology • Computational Mathematics and Scientific Calculations • Synergies with the University’s business departments

  4. AUEB’s role in EDUSAFE • WP5 Leader: Technology assessment and Exploitation (RTD) • This WP studies how a technology prototype, in this case prepared for the CERN extreme environment: a. can be transferred to other industry sectors, and b. how to develop and introduce a planning tech-development strategy which incorporates possible technology transfer potential from the start • This requires a comprehensive understanding of the research that is being carried out and its adaptation potential, and an in-depth study of different extreme environments requirements and markets. This approach will result in a reduced development time of the technology for other markets, leading to a reduction in cost and lead-time

  5. WP5 Partner roles • NTUA will investigate user adaptation possibilities based on end-user requirements in planned/operational situations and emergencies. • AUEB will perform the technology assessment and analysis of safety platforms for other extreme environments, exploitation plan development, reverse engineering methodology for VR/AR development • CERN will provide the framework for market studies for end-users with extreme environments • PRI, CAN and NOCA will investigate possible future hardware and software developments for new markets (nuclear power plants, decommissioning and maintenance, emergency cases) related to extreme environments

  6. WP5 Deliverables • 5.1 Market study, tech assess. & initial business model M16 • 5.2 Annual appraisal of research progress and training M18, 30, 42 • 5.3 Technol. assessment & reverse engineering potential M30 • 5.4 Business plan, Financial plan, IPR protection plan M42 • 5.5 Market feedback on prototype and demonstration M48 • 5.6 Presentation of Fellow’s research at end conference M48

  7. WP5 Milestones • 26 Technology assessment and framework + market study completed M18, M30 • 27 Reverse engineering methodology completed M30 • 28 Local specific trainings completed M48 • 29 Exploitation plan accepted by all partners M48

  8. Technology assessment framework and market study • Different assessment perspectives: • Technical • Financial and R.O.I. • Organizational • User acceptance • Operational/ Safety • Resource utilization/effectiveness • Methodological approach: • Conduct initial market study on the domain (M12) • Define the assessment framework and confirm it with the rest of the consortium (M12) • Initial application of the assessment framework (M18) • Final application of the assessment framework – Market feedback and demonstration (M30)

  9. Reverse Engineering Approach • Define scope of reverse engineering (M12) • Identify areas of interest and further exploitation in other domains (M18) • Define reverse engineering methodology (M18) • Apply reverse engineering methodology (M24) • Refinement and final validation of the reverse engineering methodology (M30)

  10. Training activities • Collect proposed training activities and workshops per partner • Define a project-wide training program and communicate it to the whole consortium to extend collaboration and networking • Develop a training evaluation framework and monitoring procedure • Conduct local specific trainings • Annual appraisal of research progress and training • Identify opportunities for joint publications and presentations at Conferences

  11. Exploitation plan • Propose and agree with the rest of the partners an exploitation plan framework • Request input from each partner on their potential exploitation interests and individual exploitation plans • Coordinate discussions on the overall exploitation strategy • Compile Business plan, Financial plan, IPR protection plan
