Gross Sawing Finish • Natural Stone Blocks Are Sawn At the Factory and Processed Into Slices. Depending On The Method Used, This Cut Leaves More Or Less Important Traces On The Surface Of The Slabs: • Sawing With Diamond Wire: If The Sawing Cord Is Well Tensioned, It Is The Cleanest Sawing, Without Relief Or Visible Mark. On The Other Hand, A Slightly Relaxed Cable Can Create Waves In Relief. • Mono or Multilane Sawing Leaves Fine Straight Stripes: They Remain Very Discreet (Our Illustration). • Sawing The Disc Is The Least Aesthetic, It Marks The Stone Of Circular Streaks, More Or Less Deep (Due To The Clamping Of The Slice Against The Blade At The End Of The Sawing). • This Type Of Finish Is Often That Of Inexpensive "Opus Incertum" Type Flooring And In Any Case Is Applicable As Is For Exterior Paving. • Interior Paving’s Can Be Laid Rough, but Should Be softened or Polished after Installation.

Benefits • The Price, Of Course! For Traditional Tiling, No Softening Is A Less Operation In The Factory.  • Even Better Concerning The "Opus Incertum", Which Comes From The Recovery Of The Debitage Falls Or Defective Slabs, They Are Palletized Directly At The Output Of The Machine.  • Outside, This Finish Gives A Rough Surface That Theoretically Guarantees A Better Grip, Even In Wet Weather. The Inconvenient: • Softening Or Polishing a Stone Reveals All Its Colors and Veining’s. •  The Rough Sawn Stone Is Therefore Generally Duller Than The Softened Sample Of A Display Or A Photographic Plate.. • The Softened, Or Rather The Égrisé (For The Outside) Has The Effect Of "Close" The Grain Of The Stone.  • A Rough Sawn Stone Will Therefore Tend To Get Dirty More Quickly. This Depends Of Course On The Texture, More Or Less Open, Of The Material.

The Graded Finish • With the grind (or grit), grinding of the slabs is done with a grinding wheel. This has the effect of trimming all the inevitable traces due to sawing (undulations, lines and circular marks), only very fine circular stripes remain visible. • Benefits:The égrisé clears the imperfections of the sawing which, by grazing light can be quite unsightly. The surface thus sanded remains slightly rough and thus guarantees perfect adhesion in wet weather. • The inconvenient:An increase in the price of rough sawn timber is to be expected for this finish. As with the rough sawing finish, the peened is generally duller than the softened sample of a display or photographic plate.
