  2. What is Short Sword? There is a massive list of swords if you explore history. We all know that swords have been the primary fighting weapons in the past. There were some bladed weapons used for combat. Swords, knives, daggers and short swords were the weapons used in wars. A short sword, as the name suggests, is a sword smaller than original swords. It is smaller than a sword and larger than a dagger. There are several incredible short swords in history. We are here to explore history today and we are focusing on short swords. Here are the 4 most badass short swords in history!

  3. Gladius Gladius is basically a Latin word and it means a sword. However, it is often used as a short sword primarily used by the ancient Roman soldiers. The ancient Roman swords were often quite similar to the early Greek swords. During the later period, the Romans started using a sword used during the conquest of Hispania. This was a short sword known as the Gladius or the Hispanic Sword. So, later on, Romans were often found equipped with a gladius or a dagger. Also, they used darts along with the Gladius short sword.

  4. 2. Seax Another magnificent and fantastic short sword in history was the Seax. It was first used by the military of Germany. Saxons were the people who first created and used this sword. It was a very popular tribe during that time. During the medieval era, they created and used several different swords. They are still known for creating this fabulous short sword called the Seax. There was a botched and an overall curved blade featured in this sword. The Saxons created different types of Seaxes as well. Most of these swords were delivered to Great Britain and northern countries of Europe. Now come to the appearance of the Seax. It featured a tang in the center of the blade but there was only one edge on the blade. This sword was always worn horizontally by the warriors who carried it in the scabbard. The edge of the blade was kept upwards. There was a belt attached to the scabbard to carry it around the shoulder.

  5. 3. Baselard Another magnificent short sword was the Baselard. This was another incredible sword that gained serious popularity amid the Middle Ages. Also, it earned its place during the later part of the medieval era. During the 14th century, it was considered a great fighting sword in the European continent. It was like a huge dagger and as per historians, outlaws used this sword as a sidearm weapon while battling some street feuds. This short sword is still popular and is often seen as a decor item at houses and offices.

  6. 4. Falchion A Falchion was another short sword that gained popularity during the early part of the 13th century towards the later part of the 16th century. Also, it was used in the dominant area of Europe. This Falchion short sword featured a blade with a single edge. There was a hilt which was used by a single hand. There was a very small curve on the blade of the Falchion, just like most European medieval swords. This sword looks almost like a machete knife. Also, it had a resemblance with the Persian sword called Shamshir. So, these were the most badass short swords!
