There is a study published in 2014 in JAMA Internal Medicine that says, a high added sugar diet puts a person at a higher risk of heart disease. The people consuming added sugar had a 38% higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. Too much of added sugar raises blood pressure and causes chronic inflammation.
