  27. Follow God’s example…  .and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us. Eph 5:1-2

  28. What does it mean?

  29. When Jesus told the disciples to follow him, their obedience was a physicalact of putting their feet on the ground and becoming a partof his traveling ministry.

  30. But Jesus knew that he would not always be present on earth and the call to follow him would continue on even after he returned to the Father.

  31. Therefore, the command to follow him was not only relevant for his physical days on earth but for all time.

  32. Following Jesus is not limited to walking around Palestine with him…rather it is a call for all people everywhere to embrace Jesus’ way of life.

  33. The command to follow Jesus means that everyone should join him in what he came to do.

  34. The Bible repeatedly tells us what that mission was…

  35. 1. To Obey the Father. The 1st thing that Jesus came to do was to displaya life of full dedicationto God.

  36. So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.” John 5:19

  37. “I can do nothing by Myself; I judge only as I hear. And My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”John 5:30

  38. “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but to do the will of Him who sent Me.”John 6:38

  39. “I have not spoken on My own, but the Father who sent Me has commanded Me what to say and how to say it.”John 12:49

  40. "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will."Matthew 26:39

  41. The 1st way that we follow Jesus is by following his example of total submissionto God’s will.

  42. Following Jesus means gladly & willfully allowing God’s will & desires to become our will & desires.

  43. The one who is following Jesus wants to do what God wants. They have a desire to obey his word, to grow in holiness and to begin to see everything the way God sees it.

  44. What should I do ?

  45. We must filter our attitudes, actions, desires & choices through the word of God and the life of Christ.

  46. We must begin to see each moment in our life as an opportunity to expressobedience to God.

  47. We must see obedience to Christ as ultimately rewarding and as fulfillingour highestpurpose for being.

  48. 2. To Seek & Save the Lost. The 2nd thing that Jesus came to do was to save repentant sinnersfrom their sins, through the preaching of the truth.

  49. “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10

  50. “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."Luke 5:32
