  1. 16-311 Lab 8Wheel Free Lead TAs: Joon-Hyuk Han Josh Yu ASSIGNED: Tuesday, April 7, 2014DUE: Tuesday, April 15, 2014

  2. Challenge Statement • Build a tele-operated mobile robot capable of: • Moving around quickly • Without Wheels! • Be faster than your peers • Cross a hurdle

  3. Hurdle? • Wheels won’t cut it here • Although if you are sufficiently clever they probably could, but don’t do it! • So you’ll need to try something else!

  4. Legged Locomotion

  5. 4 bar linkages are pretty useful

  6. Demo- Time Trial/Mobility • For demo day, we would like you to: • Race through a predetermined course as fast as possible to demonstrate mobility. (“Time Trial”) • There will be a shortcut with 2 hurdles that may help significantly cut down on your time. • The top 4 fastest teams will have a chance to face-off simultaneously more points and bragging rights • Only the top team will get a full score of 100 • Try your best not to hit any walls

  7. Course

  8. The Hurdles • 2” hurdle that is ok to touch • We’re using bricks!

  9. Constraints • Robot must not have any wheeled locomotion • Treads count as wheeled locomotion! • 12” x 12” x 18” size constraint • Robot will be tele-operated • This should not be difficult – you all did USAR

  10. Additional Requirements • Creativity Bonuses • Additional points to be awarded, based on your votes • Categories: • Innovation • Practicality • Cool factor • Personal favorite • Lab Webpage • Your team is required to submit a lab webpage, similar to your homeworks • Details must include: • Group name • Photo of team with robot • Explanation of design with photos
