H​arpers Ferry: This Scenic Vacation Spot is West Virginia’s Mountain Gem Impressed by its location and the natural beauty of the town located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers - Thomas Jefferson’s remarks put the town of Harpers Ferry on the map. Witnessing its beauty from the rock high above amidst the mountain hovering above the two rocky rivers, he proclaimed it as “worth a voyage across the Atlantic for,” and "perhaps one of the most stupendous scenes in nature". The town of Harpers Ferry is situated in a gorgeous spot between two rivers. Robert Harper, a millwright, established and operated a ferry at the junction of the two rivers—hence the town's name. The landscape has a mesmerizing scenic beauty with hills rising on either side that looks as if it’s been painted with many different colors come the autumn season. The quaint town has a historic charm infused with a prolific history that triggered the Civil rights movements. The scenic town has picturesque buildings from the 1800s that includes the oldest surviving building of the Robert Harper in the Lower Town, the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park est. 1963 spread in 949 hectares that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to tour the museums and boutiques. The area also offers several outdoor adventures such as hiking, biking, and water sports.

The Maryland Heights trail: The 20 miles of hiking trails is the midpoint to the Appalachian Trail. The trail has stunning overlook views with more than 1,400 feet elevation that presents a wide variety of difficult challenges. There are other lesser intensity options like the Bolivar Heights and School House Ridge North trails that calls for less climbing. The trail is widely inhibited by herons, hawks, deer, and other wildlife along the way.
