Summary of plot/ storyline • Dead person/people lying on the floor, a mother figure is heard singing childhood lullabies in the distance. • A cupboard in which a girl hides, breathing heavily in panic as she is hiding from the woman cooking in the kitchen. • Shots of this mother like figure chopping what at first appears to be food but later found to be fingers, etc. are displayed and then a close up of the girl hiding is seen as the audience hear the ‘mother’ call for ‘dinner’ • Footsteps are heard creaking the floorboards towards the cupboard and the ending shot is the doors being flung open to see the witch-like mother…

  3. Setting • Old, dark, mysterious house • Creaky floorboards • Kitchen with lowkey lighting – lit by candles and a fireplace?

  4. Characters • Witch-like/mother • Young girl • Dead people/person

  5. Camera/editing SHOT IDEAS: • The ‘mother’s’ face is not fully revealed until the last shot and the montage of her cooking up different parts of the body is shown with close ups, eyeline matches, and maybe a graphic match shot of something circular so it cuts to the girls eye in an extreme close up, to zoom out to just a close up. • In the last shot there is a close up of the girl hiding in terror as the ‘mother’ approaches to the doors of the cupboard. The black screen then opens as the daughters POV of the woman opening the doors is revealed placing the ‘mother’ at a low angle giving the connotations that she is powerful and the girl should be afraid.

  6. sound • Singing from the ‘mother’ creepy childhood lullabies, natural humming, motherly calming singing. • Rain from outside (pathetic fallacy). • Dramatic sound effect when the doors open and the woman finds the girl.

  7. Mis-en-scene • Mother – witchlike character wearing an apron with blood splattered and smeared over it and a bit of blood on her face which she wipes off. • Girl – wears dirty/scuffed clothes connoting she has background as to why she is there. • The mothers facial expression stays smiling making it creepy. • Whereas the girls facial expression remains stressed and panicked.
