  3. Goals • Develop self-control and self discipline • Develop good listening skills • Develop independent working skills • Develop responsible individuals • Develop social skills

  4. Good Morning! • Students begin walking to class at 7:35am • The late bell rings at 7:50am. • At 7:55, the students begin DEAR time.

  5. Grading The report card will have the following letters as indicators of development: B Below *With assistance, student struggles to demonstrate partial mastery of current grade level expectations PProgressing *With assistance, student demonstrates partial mastery of current grade level expectations MMeets *Student consistently meets and demonstrates mastery of current grade level expectations E Exceeds *In addition to meeting the standard, the student makes application beyond grade level expectations *If a • is placed in an area of the report card, this means that the skill was not assessed during that particular quarter.

Pathways • Word Work/Making Big Words Students practice new vocabulary, spelling, and linking known words to new words • Literacy Centers Students work in small groups on independent activities to reinforce reading and writing skills • Read Aloud Teacher is reading text to students • Shared Reading/Poem Reading a poem and finding words with certain features • Guided Reading/Literature Circles Teacher assists and instructs as student reads • Independent Reading Student reads without assistance while maintaining understanding • Writing Workshop Students work on the elements of writing. They also learn about a variety of texts.

  11. Homework Policy • Homework is a nightly 25 minute process • Reading…Silently/Read Aloud- 15 minutes • Word Study (Spelling) • Math • Sight words • Homework will be sent home every Monday and should be returned on Friday. (begins the first week of October)

Food • Breakfast: students may eat breakfast at school in the morning when they first arrive • Snack begins around 9:15 each day *choose a healthy snack, make it peanut free *water • Lunch begins at 11:00 each day. *joining your child for lunch *adding money to their account *ice cream (Thurs.) and cookie day (Mon.)
