  2. Introduction • This unit is designed for second grade students and will meet all learning styles • Unit will last six days • Unit will consist of worksheets, access to internet, presentations, and science cirrus.

  3. State Objectives RLA.O.2.3.3 • access media tools to create an oral or visual presentation (e.g., desktop publishing, electronic resources, photos). RLA.O.2.3.2 describe the main idea or intended messages in a variety of visual media (e.g., pictures, cartoons, weather reports, newspaper photos, visual narratives). SC.O.2.1.8 design and conduct simple investigations; observe, collect and record information using a variety of classification systems; describe trends of data; and make predictions based on that data (e.g., seasonal changes and plants or temperature and weather). SC.O.2.2.15 describe daily and seasonal weather changes. SC.O.2.3.5 listen to and be tolerant of different viewpoints while working in collaborative groups. SC.O.2.2.14 observe and describe different types of precipitation.

  4. Materials • Day 1: Weather log, pencil, access to computer and internet • Day 2: Weather log, pencil, access to computer and internet • Day 3: Weather long, pencil, notebook paper, access to computer and internet to take online quiz, smart board to show power point, bulletin board • Day 4: Weather Log, pencil, access to computer and internet, 2 Large, Jars, Matches, 2 Large Gloves, Food Coloring, Hot and Cold Water • Day 5: Weather bog, pencil, access to computer and internet, Season’s worksheet, Cloud Learning Wheel • Day 6: Weather Log, pencil, access to computer and internet

Web Sites Used • http://eo.ucar.edu/webweather/cloud3.htmlThis web site is designed for students to use; they will be able to study the clouds by looking at different picture and looking at a chart to see the levels of the clouds. I will be using this web site for the students to use after they have studied the clouds and they will be taking quiz where they will match the captions with the pictures of the clouds. • http://www.weather.com/ This web site will be used by the students to research the country they choose to check the weather daily. The students will be accessing this web site daily. • http://media.herald-dispatch.com/weather/ Students will visit this site daily and compare it to their weather logs in the predictions they made about the weather for that day. • http://www.wxresearch.com/usnorm.htm This site is designed for either students or teachers. I will be using this site to gain information about records within the weather in our local area and surround areas to share with the students.

  6. Day One • Introduction: The students will be introduced to their Weather Log which is what they will begin each day with. • Temperature • Weather • Picture of the clouds • Research a Countries weather of their choice.

  7. Day Two • Weather Log • Talk about the seasons • Group Students and research each season. • Present information on the seasons to the class.

  8. Day Three and Four • Ask the students to describe the clouds they have seen in the sky. • Introduce the different types of clouds to the students by using: PowerPoint, Bulletin Board, Online Quiz. • Day Four: Cloud in a jar science experiment. • Using different variables to see if it will make a differences in making a cloud (Color of water, temp. of water)

Day Five and Six • Science Cirrus • Station 1: Complete Local Weather Log • Station 2: Research Country and Complete Weather Log • Station 3: Seasons Worksheet • Station 4: Cloud Learning Wheel • Day Six Students will present their information on the country they researched and compare their weather to our weather.

  10. What They Will Be Graded On • Presentation of the Seasons and Country • Weather Log • Group participation in Science Experiment, PowerPoint, Bulletin Board, Online Quiz. • Computer Etiquette
