  2. Dictionary Definition • The use of a word to modify or govern two or more words in such a manner that it applies to each in a different sense or appropriate to only one.

  3. Everyday Language • Basically means that the word can only be used with one of the two words without it not making sense • Also means that the word will be interpreted in two different ways when paired with each of the two words

  4. Examples • “President Snow took his rose and his leave.” -The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins • “Whether the nymph shall break Diana’s law, Or some frail China-jar receive a flaw, Or stain her honor, or her new brocade.” -Rape of the Lock, Alexander Pope
