  4. Sub-Project Objectives • To gather and analyze documents pertaining to risk management • To gather and analyze articles pertaining to risk management • To implement project management tools learned in class

  7. Project Focus Area • Machinery • Caterpillar Paving Products Inc. • Caterpillar was unwilling to share risk management documents with us • We were able to do two interviews at CAT but were unable to use specific product or process information

  8. Document Search • We broadened our focus to include risk management documents from any area • Documents mainly found using internet search engines • Google • Yahoo • Some documents came from industry contacts

  9. Article Search • We found an abundance of articles relating to risk management • Articles were found using search engines • Took majority of articles from PMI’s website

  10. Interviews • Evan Graham, Six Sigma Black Belt • John Appelen, Project Manager

  11. Project Management Tools • Microsoft Project • Discussed our Myers-Briggs results to better understand each other • Risk Tracking Document

  12. Risk Tracking Survey • Purpose: To identify potential risks • Method: • Risk team identified list of 10 items • Team managers were asked to rank risks 1-10

  14. Risk Tracking Survey Outcome • Results were not discussed in second status report • No action was taken to identify and mitigate risks until late in the project

  15. Project Success • We successfully… • Found 2.5 Documents per person • Found more than 1 Article per person • Documented 2 Interviews • Organized all documents onto a website • Used project management tools and methodologies

  16. Project Shortcomings • We had trouble… • Effectively implementing risk tracking process • Reaching Milestones on-time • Tracking Team hours

  17. Lessons Learned • Ensure that objectives are clearly understood • Take time to plan and follow that plan • Communicate effectively
