  1. Build a sustainable house By Liam Mahoney

  2. What Am IDoing? For the collaborative unit I chose number two, which is to design a house that is green and sustainable. I have designed an actual 3d house that I have made in “Google sketchup” which took me 4 periods to make and design, just so you no I actually did the design, unlike most people which downloaded the design from the internet. I am going to show you my design later on in my presentation. Most of the information I got has been from either general knowledge or from some of my friends survey, I also sometimes used the internet, but it was difficult finding the right information I wanted, so I didn't always use the internet for everything.

  3. My Green Building Design My design for and energy saving green house design was very hard to make in Google Sketchup, it took me around 4-5 periods, I didn't have enough time to finish this so I did some of it through the holidays. Which will thankfully, give me more time. My house has a lot of sustainable equipment, from solar panels to batteries to hold my reserve power, I usually have a minimum of 10 . What do I use batteries for you ask? What I do is when I have more power then usual I store in some batteries and sell them to houses that can hold the batteries or I’ll send them to different countries for whoever needs them. Also ill use them for my electric car which will be the best eco friendly car ever, another thing why ill have them is just in case of emergencies, if some how I don't get enough power for a week or so. For my wall insulation I am going to have recycled glass, wood, paper and manure. Which I will get my self.

  4. My House Design As you can see here this is my house floor plan and my 3D image of my house. It tookme some time getting all the correct lines for my floor plane because I accidently did the 3D design before the actual floor plan which made it difficult to put all of the rooms where I wanted them to go.

  5. Behind the house is the batteries This my gutter that follows to my water tank My House Design This is my garage This is the front of the house

  6. My House Design This is my birds eye view design, as you can see there are many solar panels which will always Give me power no matter what. These are my many solar panels which are shaped in the right direction of the sun

  7. My House Design First Floor front door stairs Garage Extra rest room Fire place (got cut off) Dining room Kitchen Wardrobes Bdr 1 Bdr 2

  8. My House Design Second Floor Staircase Bdr 3 Lounge room Bdr 4 Bdr 5

  9. My House Design What's inside the house In the house there is many sustainable equipment. For starters I have recycled bamboo as the floor. For the kitchen I used old recycled rock that are still disfigured and I also used them for my bathroom too so they had an earthy look that suited the environment around it. The walls are all double coated with recycled wood, glass, mud and hay all squished together to make the warmest insulation and most safe. I tried to reuse wood for the skeleton of the house if I could find some wood strong enough, but if the wood was too weak I would collect it and use it for my fire place. As for the floor heating I use a fire place under my house that keeps the heat in the floors, another reason why I would of used the recycled wood. The kitchens boards would be recycled and reinforced bamboo.

  10. What I do outside of the house: There are going to many things I’m going to do outside of the house that will help me financially and sustainable. These are some of the things : 1. Shop local and buy locally grown and made foods. 2. Put on more clothes instead of turning up the heat. 3. Mend clothes before buying new ones. 4. I’ll remember, every purchase makes an impact, your choice does make a difference. 5. Eat less red meat. The very fact that healthy vegetarians and vegans exist proves that we don't really need to eat meat or fish to stay healthy.(I don’t really eat red meat anyway) 6. Avoid unnecessary consumption. Ask myself , 'Do I need it, or do I want it? 7. Put food scraps in the compost instead of transporting them to the tip. 8. Take reusable bags when shopping. 9. Reuse and refill containers whenever possible. 10. Walk, ride a bike or catch public transport instead of driving whenever possible.

  11. Other ways I’m going to help the earth: For starters instead of using normal cleaner, ill use vinegar because you can nearly use it for anything, and ill refill it regularly so that I will never run out, ill be using it for washing my clothes, washing windows and floors ect. In the summer time instead of putting the air-conditioner on ill shut all the blinds, but only on really hot days will I use he air-conditioner, but there wont be really many, I’ll also put on as much less clothes as possible. I’m going to have my backyard open to all wildlife so that they feel comfortable around my house, ill also feed them the rest of my scraps if I have any so that the animals no that there safe around my house. I will also have a bee farm so that I can make my own honey and I can sell the fresh honey to locals, there will also be some other animals like cows and ill milk them and get there milk, and once again I would sell that left over milk to locals.
