  1. Patrol Types and Stress *Breakdown the different types of Patrol Types *Understand how being a police officer can cause stress on an individuals life

Patrol Types • Preventive Patrol- patrolling streets with little direction to try and prevent crime. • Directed Patrol- Patrolling under guidance or orders on how to use patrol time • Is this considered Profiling? Discuss. • Crime mapping- GIS crime mapping- technique that involves the charting of crime pattern with geographical area

  3. Patrol Types • Aggressive patrol- practice of having an entire patrol section make numerous traffic stops and field interrogation • Field Interrogation- temporary detention in which officers stop and question pedestrians and motorist under suspicion

  4. Patrol Types • Foot Patrol-Patrolling the street on foot • Positive Results • Noticed police officers • Satisfied with service • Less afraid then police officers in cars • Michigan • Decreased crime • Satisfied with police service • Less # of police calls

  5. Use of Force • A. Excessive Force- Measure of Coercion beyond that is necessary to control participant in conflict

  6. Investigation • Investigation- Investigators- homicide, hit and run, investigation narcotics, violent gang cases, investigate crimes of police personnel, Check applicant of Police Department

  7. Cyber Crimes • Cyber Crimes- use of computer technology to commit crime • Sex Crimes • Illegal Access • Messenger IM • 4 Corners • Students should be punished at school for out of school behavior

  8. Job Stress Harmful physical and emotional outcomes that occur when the requirements of a job do not match the capability, resources, and needs of the workers. • A. Conditions of Stress • 1. Task- long hours, heavy lifting • 2. Management style- lack of participation • 3. Interpersonal Relations- poor social environment and lack of support

  9. Job Stress B. Copicide- form of suicide in which a person gets fatally shot after intentionally provoking police officers (Which leads to more stress for the police officer)

  10. Police Corruption • Grass Eaters- officers who occasionally engage in illegal and unethical activities • B. Meat Eaters- officers who seek ways to make money illegally while on duty • 1. Bribery • 2. Extortion- threat to arrest without bribe • 3. Favoritism- giving breaks on law enforcement • 4. Mooching- accept free food
