  3. Table Group • Introduce yourselves to each other. • Choose a facilitator and a recorder. • Share your responses and record all responses on a chart. TCTW Forum

Effective Professional Development • Content knowledge and pedagogical skills to improve student learning • Variety of delivery—workshops, formal classes, externships, professional learning communities • Sustained over time—process not an event • Induction and mentoring for new teachers • Data-driven—both to identify needs and to provide evidence of implementation • Follow-up coaching and further sessions TCTW Forum

  5. Alternative Certification Model for Career/Technical Teachers • Develop and pilot an induction model for alternative-route certification for CTE teachers • Study the model, collect baseline data and outcome measures in order to test and refine the model TCTW Forum

Components of the Alternative Certification Model • Professional Development • 10-Day summer institute prior to first year • Three, two-day follow-up workshops in the school year • 10-Day summer institute at end of first year • Support • External Coach—three visits • Mentor • Principal or district administrator • Communities of practice— opportunities for sharing with peers TCTW Forum

Adding Specificity and Depth • Choose a module topic and review the list of knowledge and skills under that topic. • For each area on the list, identify examples of specific knowledge and skills important to the Tech Center of the future. • Place a star (*) beside those knowledge and skills particularly important to the beginning teacher. • Place two stars (**) beside those knowledge and skills important to develop as teachers become more experienced.
