  1. Beauty for ashes Living powerful and free as a Daughter of the King

  2. jesus Mission: TO SET THE CAPTIVES FREE “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord’s favor.” - Luke 4:18-19

  3. Identity= who we are • Who am I? • How do I define myself? • How did I come to that conclusion? “Most of us are led astray because we are looking, no longing- for someone to define us.” -Lisa Bevere

  4. Take a minute to think back… Healthy Children: • Know they are cared for and trust their mom and dad • Is fully alive and full of joy • See themselves as beautiful and adored • Freely give and receive love • Know to whom they belong “But Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” - Matthew 19:14, NLT

  5. Exchanging truth for a lie • When did I first allow the opinions of others to influence my opinion of myself? • Is there a painful memory I’ve allowed to influence how I view myself? • What lies am I believing that are contrary to who God says I am?

  6. The ultimate lie We ARE: • What we do --------- (Achievements) • What we have--------(Material wealth) • What we wear--------(Fashion) • What we know------- (Intellect) • Who we know--------(Popularity) • How we look---------(Beauty) • What we weigh “Whenever you are limited to your SELF IMAGE, then the IMAGE OF SELF becomes your Master.” - Lisa Bevere

  7. The Voice of the enemy • “He (the devil) was a murderer from the beginning and has always hated the truth. There is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.” -John 8:44, NLT • “But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.” -2 Corinthians 11:3 • “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” -1Peter 5:8

  8. What do we hear re: culture’s ideal woman? Where did we learn this from? What are we really seeking? AFFIRMATION, AFFECTION, ATTENTION “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” - Romans 12:2 ESV

  9. Alissa’s story Transformed from the inside out… “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.” - 1 Corinthians 6:19

  10. What does it mean to be a woman of God? • Who am I? • A Daughter of the King • What is my purpose? • To praise, revere, and serve God • To love Him and honor Him with my life "'I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,' says the Lord Almighty." (2 Corinthians 6:17-18, NIV)

  11. Do I see my life and choices as mine to control? Where do I give my time, attention, and devotion? The First Principle and Foundation : God is God and I am Not! • All things in this world are gifts of God… • But if any of these gifts become the center of our lives, they displace God and so hinder our growth toward our goal • We must hold ourselves in balance before all of these created gifts • Our only desire and one choice should be this: I want and choose what better leads to God’s deepening his life in me.

  12. Culture = the idol of self • “YOLO!” Live for the moment, live for pleasure, live for SELF! • Comparison & Competition: “I can do anything you can do better!” • Talents & Abilties: For what purpose? To serve OTHERS or serve SELF • SELF- HATRED= inverted pride An over concern for self Disconnect with God as Creator

  13. The idol of self:pride= comparing, competition, and perfectionism I WAS • How many titles or scholarships I achieved • How many heads I turned • How fast or far I could run • How much influence I had • How many things I could cross off my “to-do” list

  14. Beauty • “63% of females identify weight as the key factor in determining how they feel about themselves- more important than family, school, or career. They regard size, much like weight, as a definitive element of their identity.” • You Are Not What You Weigh, Lisa Bevere • What do we define as beautiful? • How does that look in America, Africa, Asia, South America?

  15. Sexuality: what is god’s design? • In what ways am I trying to get my needs met? - Physical - Emotional - Spiritual • What does culture tell women in regards to sexuality? • What is God’s Truth in male/female relationships? Culture = subjective truth “Whatever is good for you is fine”

  16. Danielle’s story What voice am I listening for?? • Voice of the Enemy • Voice of Self (the flesh) • Voice of God

  17. New creation, set free! • ROOTS can be important for understanding, repentance, and healing, but we will never be FREE until we move forward from the past and EMBRACE our identity as NEW CREATIONS in Christ. “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” - 1 John 3:1

  18. The old way has to go “As so I insist- and God backs me up on this- that there be no going along with the crowd, the empty-headed, mindless crowd. They’ve refused for so long to deal with God that they’ve lost touch not only with God but with reality itself…But that’s no life for you. You learned Christ! My assumption is that you have paid careful attention to him, been well instructed in the truth precisely as we have it in Jesus. Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything- and I do mean everything- connected to the old life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life- a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you.” - Ephesians 4:17-24

  19. Final Prayer “I pray that your hearts would be flooded with light so that you can understand the wonderful future he has promised to those he has called. I want you to realize what a rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his people.” -Ephesians 1:18
