  2. Childhood • Cipe Pineles was born in Austria 1908 June 23. Her father died and she lived with her mother. She survived the Bolshevik raid in Austria. When she was a teenager she moved to New York City at the age of 15. (1923)

  3. Early years… • When she was 20 years old, she was an artist walking around New York selling her artworks. • In the 1930’s her artwork’s style was ground breaking. • She started as an illustrator, in the 1930’s, she was known as a great and ‘engendered’ artist that time.

  4. Her work • As she got more well known, she started working for Vogue, Seventeen Charm and Glamour. • She was an illustrator, model, artist • She made major contributions to editorial design during the 1940's and 1950's • As an illustrator, Cipe Pineles also worked with authors. • Cipe Pineles enjoyed a long successful career. She was the first woman to join the New York Art Director's Club and was the first woman inducted into their Hall of Fame

  5. Success • Her designs were full of color, pattern and form, with a lyrical quality. • Most of her pieces are old-fashioned and vintage like.

  6. Her work • Most of her pieces also have some collage effect design • The magazine covers are often designed to have one focal point which the reader is able to see first • All her pieces are exciting and fashionable and eye catching
