  3. Company Background • Online Services IDM • Web site marketing company • Over 400 clients • Over 500 domains on our server • Have three servers

  4. Daily Activities • Checking in with the boss • Completing tasks • Dealing with customers

  5. Search Engine Optimization • Aka SEO • Making webpage visible on search engines • Example: google.com • For instance: University of Miami • Result: miami.edu • Do not want: ihateumaimi.com • Keywords are optimized for a webpage • Number one service

  6. How SEO works • The higher a site appears in a search the more traffic the site has • SEO is done per keyword • Clients need to be specific on how they want to market themselves • The more content a webpage has the better • Search engines take about 30-90 days to index a site

  7. How SEO works (continued) • Older more active sites are indexed first • Our company will use virtual sites for faster indexing • Online Services IDM owns about 400 virtual sites • Customer pays for each virtual site they want to use

  8. Problems with SEO • Does not work well on low content sites • Flash sites • Video sharing sites • Fix the problem by creating content • Pay per click • People can simply pay a search engine to display their site on the top of the page

  10. Windows Server • Basic use: • Add/remove domains • Add/remove email accounts • Correct file permissions • Managing dns • Managing SQL server

  11. Dreamweaver • WYSIWYG webpage editor • Fix broken links • Convert web pages from html to asp • Use find and replace functionality to perform SEO • Check the layout to make sure it looks proper
