  1. What is a Retail Credit Card Processing & How Does It Work? A retail credit card processing is a type of financial transaction in which a customer pays for goods or services using a credit card. The merchant then forwards the credit card details to their bank or acquirer, who will in turn provide funding to the merchant in exchange for the credit card payment.

  2. There are many different types of retail credit card processing, but the most common is known as point-of-sale (POS) processing. This type of processing takes place when a customer makes a purchase at a physical store using their credit card. The merchant will then swipe the credit card through a POS terminal, which will send the transaction details to the acquirer.

  3. Other types of retail credit card processing include mail order/telephone order (MOTO) processing, e-commerce processing, and mobile processing. MOTO processing takes place when a customer makes a purchase over the phone or through the mail using their credit card. E-commerce processing occurs when a customer makes a purchase online using their credit card.

  4. Mobile processing allows customers to make purchases using their credit card through a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet. No matter which type of retail credit card processing is used, the end result is the same: the customer pays for goods or services using their credit card, and the merchant receives funding from the acquirer in exchange for the payment.
