PREFACE Maharashtra Energy Development Agency • Registered as a society under Societies Registration Act, 1860 (In 1985) and Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 (In 1987). • Under the aegis of MNRE, Govt. of India • Assistance to the State and Central Govt. to promote and develop new and renewable sources of energy and technologies; and to promote and implement energy conservation. • Working as State Nodal Agency in renewable energy sector and State Designated Agency in energy conservation sector. • Committed to explore the resources such as Wind, Solar, Hydro, Biomass, Geothermal, Wave; which are clean and eco-friendly in nature. 4

  5. HIGHLIGHTS • Maharashtra has installed capacity of 3455.986 MWrenewable energy projects. (as on 30 September 2011) • Achievement in respect of potential: • At National Level - 22.33% • At State Level - 39.09 % • The largest Wind Monitoring Programme in the Country (339 sites) • The world’s largest Solar Cooking System (17,000 Meals) at Shirdi. • The largest number of Wind Solar Hybrid Systems (981KW) • The first state to formulate ‘Green Power Development Fund’ @ 8 paise per unit on industrial & commercial consumption 5 Contd…

HIGHLIGHTS • The first state in the country to approach MERC for RPO • The first state in the country to initiate action on Geothermal Power Projects on commercial basis. • MEDA is the first public sector organization in India to get CDM benefits for its 3.75 MW grid connected wind projects. • Solar Water Heating – Achievement of (4.26 lakh sq.m. collector area) • 251 MW Peak Load Shaving • 3.76 lakh tonnes of CO2 mitigation 6

THE VISION • To maximize generation of energy from renewable sources • To implement effective measures for increasing energy efficiency and conservation • Endeavor to achieve renewable power generation to the extent of 10% of the gross energy generation in the state by 2015. • Scaling up by 1% each year to achieve 10% mark by 2014-2015. • Installed capacity in renewable power generation is 3455.365 MW as of Sept. 2011. 7 Contd….

THE VISION • Capacity Addition: Capacity installation is sought to be doubled by 2015. • Installation of 200 wind monitoring stations to assess the wind energy potential in the State. • Exploration of the potential of Geo-thermal energy in the state by 2015. • Suitable policies and incentives will be put in place to encourage Renewable Energy Projects. • Electrification of all villages / wadis / padas in the tribal and remote areas – through renewable energy 8 Contd….

Advantages of Wind Energy • Pollution free • Saves fuel as no fuel is required • Can be established in least time • Helps develop hilly and undeveloped regions • Provides employment to local people • Boost to domestic industries • Transmission costs reduced as wind energy generation is localized • Energy generation is totally by private investors

Wind Resource Assessment Programme • WRA Study completed - 158 sites • Sites declared by MNRE /C-WET - 40 sites • Estimated Wind Power Potential - 5439 MW • WRA Study in progress - 181 sites • After completion of WRA study by considering around 20% feasibility of sites, around 3000- 4000 MW capacity wind power potential is likely to be added for further development of wind power projects. 14

  18. MERC Tariff for RE Projects - Wind Note:- The above Tariff shall be valid for Projects Commissioned in FY 2011-12. The above Tariff shall be valid for a Tariff Period of 13 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) 18

Highlights of Policy • Evacuation – 33 KV and above – Limited to Rs.2 Cr/project • SFA ~ 50% from green cess • Electricity Duty – exempted for captive use & 3rd party sale for 10 yrs • Capital Subsidy – Rs. 1 cr for switchyard • Cane Purchase Tax – 3% tax exemption for first 10 years for co-op. sector. • SFA will be availed after 1 year from COD & PLF is 80%

  23. Initiatives • Formation of two SPVs from Urjankur Nidhi Trust namely – a) Urjankur Datta Power Pvt. Ltd (36 MW) b) Urjankur Warana Power Pvt. Ltd. (44 MW) • Awareness among sugar factories for modernizing the process to use steam more efficiently • Assistance to sugar factories in seeking grid connectivity • Assistance to sugar factories in seeking CFA/incentives • Suitable state govt. policy declared

Dept) MEDA to develop projects upto 5 MW on Run of River, Waterfalls and KT Weirs vide GR dated 08/12/05 Identified 60 new hydro power sites (51.77 MW) Prepared DPR for 2x300 KW Microhydro projects (Chincholi & Mangle-Savarde) Prepared Technical Feasibility Study for 35 sites in Tribal Area (2.5 MW) 30

  31. MERC Tariff for RE Projects - SHP Note:- The above Tariff shall be valid for Projects Commissioned in FY 2011-12. The above Tariff shall be valid for a Tariff Period of 35 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for projects less than and including 5 MW, and for 13 years for projects with installed capacity greater than 5 MW and upto and including 25 MW

Highlights of Policy Capital Subsidy – Rs. 0.5 Lakh per kW upto 5 MW limited to Rs. 1.5 cr per project for all types of hydro projects Evacuation – 50% from Green Cess after commissioning (11 kv & above) – Limited to Rs.1.10 Cr. Electricity Duty – Exempted for captive use & 3rd party sale for first 10 yrs after commissioning. 32

Waste to Energy - Status • MSW to power potential ~ 250 MW • Sewerage Waste Potential ~ 37 MW • Industrial Waste ~ 55 MW • Corporations have initiated ward wise treatment of Municipal Solid Waste • One MSW projects of 3 MW capacity at Solapur Municipal corporation is in pipeline • 4.725 MW industrial waste to power commissioned on 22nd March 2011 in Dharmadabad, Dist. Nanded. 35

  36. Highlights Waste to power projects (off-grid) commissioned in state – • Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate, Shreepur, Tal. Malshiras, Dist. Solapur ~ 1 MW (Distillery) • Gadre Marine, MIDC Ratnagiri : 0.86 MW (Fish Processing) • Universal Starch, Dondaicha, Dist. Dhule : 0.875 MW (Starch) • Assistance to MCs/councils in preparing tender documents/notices for implementing MSW based power projects. 36
