  1. THE PERFECT HUMAN AL-INSAN AL-KAMIL AL-WALI SIDQ ALLAH AL-WALI MINNAT ALLAH

  2. THE NATURE OF MYSTICAL EXPERIENCE Sense of freedom in order to become the essence of moral process needs two auxiliary practices: 1. DISCIPLINE: In exploring his/her unconscious, the novice (murid) must be under the watchful control of one more experienced than him/her-self 2. CONCEPTUAL ANALYSIS: In speaking intelligibly about murid’s fears or blockings or dreams

  3. THE SENSE OF ONESELF AND THE UNIVERSE • The limits of conceptual discourse in making sense of ultimate cosmic and moral insights must be compensated through symbolic images • Symbolic Images evoke emergent associations, rather than fix propositions • Mythopoeic Forms outline truths after the manner of myths: multivalent, every hearer can grasp as his/her own level of understanding

  4. THE MYTH OF MICROCOSMIC RETURN • HUMAN BEING = “microcosm,” “world in miniature” • Human = fullest fruition of all the elements of “macrocosm”, the Universe • Rational Universe implied “purposiveness” in all its parts and in its totality • The Purpose = Human Being

  5. THE MYTH OF MICROCOSMIC RETURN • The Cosmos is fulfilled through an individual’s self-fulfillment • Self-fulfillment seen as a return, on a new level, to cosmic origins • The Myth explains how the soul comes to find itself longing always beyond its present reach • Becoming conscious of the origin = of God • Becoming mirrors of God

  6. THE PERFECT HUMAN • COSMIC PURPOSIVENESS to be completed by the Perfect Human, the cosmically culminative human role brought to perfection • The Qutb: the Final Cause of sub-lunar existence • The Influence of Shi`ite conception of the Imam

  7. GILANI AS A PERFECT SUFI • PRACTICAL RELATIONSHIP OF PIR-MURID • His spiritual teachings consisted on ten virtues, which, if they become well-rooted, will lead to full spirituality: • Each virtue, accessible, inward-looking with great implications if carried through

  8. 1. Not to swear by God either truthfully or falsely A source of habitual self-control Lend dignity to human Force to take God seriously 2. Not to speak untruth even in jest 3. Not to break a promise 4. Not to curse or harm anything 5. Not to pray or wish for harm to anyone TEN VIRTUES FOR HUMAN SPIRITUALITY

  9. 6. Not to accuse anyone of religious infidelity 7. Not to attend anything sinful 8. Not to impose any burden on anyone 9. Not to expect anything from human beings 10. To notice only the points in others where they may be superior to oneself TEN VIRTUES
