  3. New three year Extension initiative • Funded under USDA’s Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program

  4. Comprehensive whole farm management program • Designed for individuals with less than 10 years farming experience • Two year commitment for the producer

  5. Year One • Producers will participate in 10 to 12 face-to-face educational sessions • Could include classroom meetings, on-farm demonstrations, field days and field trips

  6. Potential Topics Suggested Farm Management Marketing Enterprise Evaluations Financial Management Nutrient Management

  7. Legal Risk Government Resources Production Topics Evaluation of Natural Resources Business Plans Leadership Development

  8. Year Two • Producer will be teamed up with a mentor with similar interests

  9. On-Line • Curriculum for farmers is being developed • Producers who do not have the program offered in their county • For those who prefer the flexibility of the on–line alternative

  10. Program Design • County Extension agents/committees design the program curriculum to fit their participants’ needs

  11. Program • Communication and Leadership in AG • KY General Assembly Field Trip • Management Skills that will Grow Your Farm • Livestock and Facilities Field Day
