  4. Why Green? • The level of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing and causing global warming • Global warming is causing environmental effects including an increase in sea level • Too rapid an increase in sea level can cause tremendous damage to infrastructure in coastal areas

  10. CaliforniaEnergy Code DBI is required to enforce • DBI enforces this code through plan review by the Mechanical Plan Review Section, and by the field inspection process • New construction and renovations are required to be highly energy-efficient

  11. California Energy Code Requirements • Electric resistance space heating and electric resistance water heating are prohibited

  12. California Energy Code Requirements • Furnaces, heat pumps and air conditioners are required to be energy efficient types

  13. California Energy Code Requirements • Window area is regulated and residential windows are required to be energy efficient

  14. California Energy Code Requirements • All new replaced or modified residential light fixtures shall be “high efficacy” type with exceptions.
