  3. Why Attend a New Member Orientation? • To be introduced to the organization • To gain the knowledge of the Local, State, National, and International Organization

  4. What Name(s) Do We Go By? • The United States Junior Chamber or The United States Jaycees • The Nebraska Junior Chamber or The Nebraska Jaycees • The Fremont Junior Chamber or The Fremont Jaycees

  5. Vision • To Become…. The organization of choice for young people, providing direction and leadership to our communities

  6. The Mission Statement • To provide young people the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills through local community service and organizational involvement while expanding the Jaycee movement

  7. When Did The Jaycees Organization Begin? • In 1920 • Founded by Henry Giessenbier • In St. Louis, Missouri • Began as the Herculaneum Dance Club

  8. The U.S. Jaycees History • 1920’s: 1923: The Get Out The Vote program was the first Jaycee program to receive National endorsement 1927: Jaycee Charles Lindburg made the first solo flight between New York and Paris. The Jaycees worked with Lindburg to develop the U.S. Air Mail Service

  9. More History…. • 1930’s: 1936: The National Wildlife Federation is established with the guidance of the USJC 1938: The USJC name the Ten Outstanding Young Men • 1940’s: 1946: USJC established permanent headquarters in Tulsa Oklahoma 1947: The adoption of the Jaycee Creed • 1950’s: 1954: The first Outstanding Young Farmer program was held 1959: The Jaycees supported statehood for Alaska and Hawaii gained statehood the following year due to Jaycee effort

More History…. • 1960’s: 1961: The First Governmental Affairs Leadership Seminar (GALS) was held • 1970’s: 1972: Operation Identification Program to combat burglaries and aid in crime prevention efforts 1972: Operation Red Ball 5 million stickers were distributed to reduce fire fatalities • 1980’s: 1984: By law change admitted women as full and regular members 1985: The U.S. Jaycees endorsed the Campaign for Liberty program, for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty

  11. Our History Continues…. • 1990’s: 1993: The Jaycees Against Youth Smoking (JAYS) program was adopted • 2000’s: 2000: First female elected National President 2001: Name changes to The United States Junior Chamber 2004: Bylaw change established membership age as 18 - 40

  12. When I join the local chapter, what else do I become a member of? • You become a member of the Fremont Jaycees • You are also a member of the Nebraska Jaycees • You are also a member of The United States Junior Chamber • You are also a member of Junior Chamber International (JCI)

  13. State History • State Organization established in 1927. • The State Headquarters are located wherever the President resides—North Platte • There are 28 chapters located throughout our state

  14. Nebraska Priority Projects / Programs • State sports competitions—Super Shooters; Pitch, Hit & Run; Punt, Pass & Kick. Also supports Outstanding Young Farmer; Ten Outstanding Young Americans; JAYS; Relay for Life; Family Talk

  15. The Fremont History • Chartered in 1936. • The impact that our chapter has had on our community is offering youth sports competitions and skills development; provide fundraising efforts for those less fortunate; provide a better leader in today’s workplace.

  16. Our Chapter Today • Is constantly improving with members like you! We are involved in community, individual and international activities that ultimately accomplishes our mission.

  19. The Individual Area of Opportunity Projects that deal with Personal Development, Professional Development, Membership Retention, Membership Growth, New Chapter Development, and Chapter Activities

  20. The Community Area of Opportunity Projects that deal with Community Service, Community Fundraising, Government & Civic Involvement, and Children & Youth

  21. The International Area of Opportunity Projects that deal with State, National, and International Junior Chamber Involvement and International Involvement

  22. The Chairman’s Planning Guide (CPG) • What is this? • This is a business plan that covers every aspect of running a project • The CPG includes goal setting, manpower assignments, budgeting, devising a time line, and the evaluation of a project • We, the Jaycees, are the only organization that has this tool, that created this tool, and that use this tool!

  23. Goals for the Future • Fundraise $2500 to give back to the community • Work with Diverse Age Groups • Conduct all State sponsored sports competitions • Offer 18 individual development projects • Continue Chamber Membership and participate in activities • Host State sports competition • Orientate all new members • Conduct JAYS and Family Talk programs

  24. How you can get involved…. • Participate in the Springboard & Degrees Programs • Sign up to volunteer at projects • Ask chairman what you can help with on their project

  25. Remember…. You get as much personal & professional growth from this organization that you want by your involvement in our organization
