  2. INFORMATION ABOUT Dr. Greg Vaughan Dr. Greg Vaughan works for the Astrogeology Science Center in Flagstaff AZ. One of the things he is currently working on is remotely monitoring volcanic activity (thermal features, gas emissions and ground deformation). He got his bachelors of sciences in Geology in May 1992 at Virginia Tech. The next degree he earned was his Masters of sciences in Geology in June 1995 at the University of Georgia finally he got his Doctorate in geology from the University of Nevada Reno.   4. What is Geology • This is a movie that will help you understand Geology. • Geology: The science that deals with the dynamics and physical history of the earth, the rocks of which it is composed, and the physical, chemical, and biological changes that the earth has undergone or is undergoing.

  5. Things Dr. Vaughan has done • Dr. Vaughan was able to go on a research cruise and dive in the submersible Alvin along the East pacific rise to study black smoker chimneys. He told me the coolest part about going down was sinking below where the sunlight penetrates (the water goes completely dark about 200 meters). Some life forms he said he saw were fish, crab, shrimp, octopus, various types of tube worms, and bacteria mats. He said that they went down about 8200 feet The alvin submersible

Some more things Dr. Vaughan has done • Dr. Vaughan went around the U.S. to state parks with honors college students. • The parks that they went to Where Carlsbad Caverns, Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, Death valley, Bryce Canyon, Mount St. Helens, Dinosaur Nation Monument, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Glacier Nation Monument, Crater Lake, Point Reyes, Yosemite, Lava Beds State Park, Zion Nation Park, Great Sand Dunes, Ashfall Fossil Beds and many others Zion National parks

  7. Minerals Exploration • Dr. Vaughan has explored for rare minerals such as gold and diamonds. Dr. Vaughan looked for gold in Virginia, North Carolina, Nevada, Utah, Idaho and California. He said he found a few flakes, but not much. When he was looking for diamonds he stayed in Montana, he said he didn't find diamonds but some minerals that typically occur with diamonds
