  2. SSP-Y • President – Brandon Abbott OMS-IV • Vice President – Joshua Bentley OMS-IV • Secretary-Treasurer – Vanessa DeSousa OMS-IV

  3. A Start • Upsilon chapter was welcomed into the Sigma Sigma Phi at the AOA National Convention in New Orleans in October 2009 • The chapter inducted 23 OMS-III students by recommendation of the ATSU-SOMA Honor Committee

  4. Honor Committee • Honor Committee consists of Dean, two faculty members, and four student government presidents • They make recommendations by looking at the following for each inductee: • Academic performance • Community service contributions • Commitment to peers via tutoring • Leadership and extracurricular involvement • Commendation from faculty

  5. A Start • Since the first induction in November 2009, there have been a second induction of 3 OMS-IV and 11 OMS-III’s • The second induction and thereafter have been at the recommendation by the Honor Committee followed by approval by the SSP-Y membership

  6. Service • In order to maintain membership in the SSP-Y members must commit to atleast80 hours of community service throughout their membership • This results in over 4,000 hours of community service performed NATIONWIDE! • They track their service via a webform on the SSP-Y intranet site • More than 500 hours of community service have been logged nationwide so far!

  7. Service • Members have logged community service in anything from coaching youth soccer and football teams, volunteering at health screenings, mentoring youth, fundraising • Members are logging service from Hawaii to Brooklyn, from Alabama to Washington • They are truly affecting their communities throughout the country

  8. Looking Ahead • Sigma Sigma Phi Upsilon (SSP-Y) will be electing their new officers in November • The SSP-Y will also be inducting its third class in November, after the officer elections • The SSP-Y is also currently working on a formalized Upperclassmen-to-Underclassmen mentoring system as well as an SSP-Y tutoring system
